President of Swissmem and Vice-President of economiesuisse
Hans Hess has been President of the Swissmem industry association since November 2010. He graduated from ETH Zurich as a materials engineer in 1980 and, in 1989, was awarded an MBA from the University of Southern California in the United States. He subsequently held a number of managerial positions at various Swiss industrial companies, and was CEO of Leica Geosystems from 1996 to 2005.
Today, Hans Hess is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Comet Holding AG and Reichle & De-Massari Holding AG, and a member of the Board of Directors of Burckhardt Compression Holding AG and dorma+kaba Holding AG. He is also Vice-President of economiesuisse and manages his own consulting company, Hanesco AG.
Brief CV - Peter Dietrich
Peter Dietrich, born on 16.6.1967, grew up in the Baden region and completed his law studies at the University of Fribourg in 1992, graduating with a Master's degree. He was licensed to practise law in 1995 and subsequently completed an LL.M. in international business law in 2002.
After his studies, Peter Dietrich first worked as an attorney at law and then as legal counsel at the Association of Swiss Engineering Employers (ASM). He was appointed Head of Swissmem’s Employer Issues unit in 2000 and, at the same time, joined the executive management body of Switzerland’s biggest industry association. He has been CEO of Swissmem since April 2008. He sits on the Board of Directors of SUVA and a family-managed industrial company, and is chairman of a pension fund board.
Brief CV - Dr. Jean-Philippe Kohl
Vice director, Head of Economic Policy
Jean-Philippe Kohl, born on 24.6.1966, grew up in the Baden region and graduated from the University of Zurich in 1992 with a degree in economics. He subsequently wrote his doctoral thesis at the University of Basel, where he obtained his doctorate in 1996.
Jean-Philippe Kohl worked in the economic policy department of the Federation of Migros Co-operatives in Zurich from 1996 to 2000. From 2000 to 2008, he was deputy to the General Secretary of the Department of Finance in Canton Berne. Jean-Philippe Kohl has been head of Swissmem’s economic policy unit since May 2008, and he is also a member of Swissmem’s Management. In addition, he has been teaching at the FHNW since 2003.
