The growing importance of the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region for the MEM industry - Martin Hirzel, President of Swissmem

The region of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) has gained in importance for the Swiss
machinery, electrical and metal industry (MEM industry) over the past ten years. In
terms of total MEM industry exports, it has now reached the size of China. One of the
advantages of this region is its geographical and cultural proximity to Switzerland. Despite the war between Russia and Ukraine, the region is likely to gain in importance in the context of nearshoring from Asia
