At its meeting held on 1 April 2008, the Executive Committee of Swissmem appointed 41-year-old lawyer Peter Dietrich as the association’s new CEO. Dietrich, who has worked for Swissmem for 12 years and been Head of its Employer Issues division since 2000, succeeds Hans-Ulrich Bigler, who was elected Chairman of the Swiss Union of Crafts and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises last week.

Peter Dietrich was born on 16 June 1967 and is a citizen of Leissigen (Canton of Berne). He grew up in the Baden region and obtained a degree in jurisprudence from the University of Fribourg in 1992. In 1995 he was licensed to practise law by the Canton of Aargau and in 2002 obtained a Master of Law in international business law, specializing in contract law and arbitration. Peter Dietrich joined the Association of Swiss Engineering Employers (ASM) as a legal consultant and association secretary in 1996. In 2000 he was appointed Head of Swissmem’s Employer Issues division and at the same time joined the Executive Board of Switzerland’s biggest industry association.  Zurich, 1 April, 2008
