Into the digital future with security in mind

Increasing digitalization in industry opens up a great deal of potential, but there are also security risks. Cyberattacks can threaten business activities and – in the worst-case scenario – have fatal consequences for companies. Cybersecurity is therefore of strategic importance, and it is vital that it be considered an integral component throughout the life cycles of machinery, systems and end products.

Secure operation of intelligent, networked production equipment and systems is essential for the successful implementation of Industry 4.0. At the same time, the rise in the level of digitalization also means an increased risk of becoming a potential target of cybercriminals.

In their digitalization efforts, companies need to include security aspects from the outset and take the necessary organizational and technical measures to protect their operations – particularly their industrial systems, and ultimately their customers – from cyberattacks. As well as a risk analysis, various levels of the company need to be made aware of the security hazards and know how to identify them and close any security loopholes.

Here, companies operate in an environment of private services, political support measures and increasing regulatory requirements for the protection of customers. Swissmem provides information on the resulting opportunities and advocates a contractual structure for the legal framework conditions.

Swissmem’s Industry 2025 initiative examines the issue of cybersecurity in practice and develops complementary offers for companies.
